This page documents multiple
families (Bryant, Matthews, Welch, Dillard, Sparks, Gossett, Harvey, McBee, Cannon, Kirby, etc) that are so interlinked
that the reader is best served by the data being resident in a
single data base. Please see the references in the photo
galleries for background on these families. The first item in the
individual family photo galleries provides some brief family
history. These pages contain some erroneous data, it's just the
best we happen to have right now. Use it at your own risk.

When James Arthur was orphaned at age nine, he and his brothers placed in homes of family, friends or members of their church. Arthur was placed in the home of a family named KIMZEY who reared him . He was given a third grade education, (at that time childern started to school at age 8 and finished at age 16, when they were put to work which also educated them.) As a teen-ager, Arthur was in a field with Mr KIMSEY when a young man, Ed GAMMONS, rode up on a horse and killed Mr. KIMSEY, rode to the house and killed MR. KIMSEY'S pretty young daughter who had spurned him. Arthur never talked about the killing, this upset him so badly. His oldest brother, Robert Avis took him into his home. , source, nancy Jo Nance, Naples Tx. and James arthur Crocker , jr.
Arthur worked at I.C. R. R. Non Connor shops as a railroad carpenter in the 1930's and 1940's as did his brother, Altas. When laid off, they did private carpenter.
